( they lay in bed a lot together, eddie idly notes one evening.
they're pressed flush against one another in richie's too small twin bed as a warm breeze blows in through the open window. although school had been out for a little over a week but its surprisingly quiet tonight considering all the end of the year and graduation parties that had been so commonplace since the summer had began. he had been to a few of them with richie and the other losers but mostly he had stuck close to richie since their senior year had ended. yeah, his mother still sighed and hated how much time they spent together but she hated him going to parties more so this was the lesser of two evils in her eyes.
he can't imagine how much she would wail and curse if she knew just how close they actually were. certainly, she'd probably die on the spot. she was already ready to lock him in his room as it was since it was clear just how little she enjoyed the idea of him leaving home. they had fought and fought until eddie had finally given in to signing up for classes at the local community college instead of applying for anywhere outside of derry. if only just to get her off his back because, in truth, he was far from sticking around derry.
and, as they lay there together now, eddie can't help frowning. all he wanted was to get out of this town, leave with richie and go somewhere else where they could just live together. where they could get the jobs they wanted, be together and not worry about all this small town bullshit that had been their entire lives. they could live somewhere near the ocean, get married and have some yappy dog, kiss one another without worry.
it's perhaps why eddie shifts just enough to tilt his head on richie's chest, looking up at him and taking in a shaky breath. )
Hey, um, so... what if we just left tomorrow? Fuck graduation and just drive out of here instead?
